Your new role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highways Enforcement Officer to join the Highways and Enforcement Team on a full time and permanent basis. This post holder will support and occasionally deputise for the Enforcement Team Leader in the provision, management and co-ordination of Enforcement. As an Enforcement officer, you will manage and protect the highway network to ensure that the aims of the Service are delivered.
You will be responsible for issuing and tracking of fixed penalty notices when necessary, you will also need to investigate incidents of damage and obstruction as they occur and offences relating to waste, such as fly tipping.
You will carry out efficient and effective street enforcement patrols, inspections and surveillance targeted at enforcing environmental crime and any other relevant abuse of open and public spaces to improve the appearance of the street environment and to bring about compliance of relevant legislation and the Council’s Environmental Enforcement Policy.
This post is offered on a hybrid working pattern (combination of site visits, working from home and office).

What you'll need to succeed
Previous experience of working within highways/enforcement environment is essential. You need to be able to communicate effectively and be engaging as you will be liaising with the general public and different stakeholders.
You need to have a sound understanding of the legislation and enforcement powers available for street enforcement and an ability to identify opportunities to enhance effectiveness . Experience of undertaking environmental enforcement in a similar frontline role including evidence gathering and statement writing and attendance at court is essential for this role.
Good knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation relating to enforcement including environmental crime and ASB. Excellent customer care skills which include a proven ability and understanding of communication at all levels will be ideal. You need to be able to deal effectively with complaints and difficult situations in a diplomatic but assertive manner.
Previous experience of working within TFL- rail environment or utility company would be considered.
